Scorched Laserworks
A True Family business
“At Scorched, our mission is to create custom tools and keepsakes that feel cinematic, personal, and built to last. Whether you’re calling action on set or hanging a memory on the tree, we’re here to make it unforgettable.”

The Story Behind the Flame
Scorched Laserworks started the way a lot of the best things in life do — with love, dogs, and a little bit of fire.
Back in the early days, it was just the two of us — Nick and Amanda — chasing creative dreams with our pups Brody and Bailey by our side (and now, with our latest studio sidekick, Churro). We’ve always been a tight-knit crew. Whether it’s a beach day, a set day, or a slate-painting night that goes way too late, we do it all together.
Nick was deep in the film industry, hustling as a cinematographer, while Amanda — a lifelong artist and colorful soul — was bringing joy to classrooms as an art teacher. Her work is full of whimsy, paint, and imagination. His is all lighting, movement, and visual storytelling. Somewhere in the middle, Scorched was born.
It started with a simple problem: Nick wanted a custom slate for a production, but nothing out there felt personal or well-crafted. So we made our own. Then we made 16 more as wrap gifts for a crew. When we saw how much people loved them — not just filmmakers but friends, family, even strangers — we listed a few on Etsy. The response was immediate. People weren’t just buying slates — they were buying keepsakes, gifts, memories.
We had no idea how to run a laser, much less a business. So we taught ourselves everything — engraving, painting, packaging, selling, designing, shipping, branding, all of it. Every order we ship still comes from our little shop, made by hand and heart, with a couple of dogs napping nearby.
This is a family business in every sense of the word. We make things we’re proud of — things that tell stories, spark smiles, and last longer than the shoot.

Cinematographer & Founder of Scorched Laserworks
Nick Ramsey
Nick Ramsey is a Los Angeles-based cinematographer whose work spans narrative film, music videos, and commercials. After years on set, he found himself frustrated by flimsy, generic slates that didn’t reflect the care and craft of a real production. So he made his own—and Scorched Laserworks was born.
Originally created to solve his own problem, Nick’s custom slates quickly caught fire after he engraved personalized gifts for a crew of directors. Word spread, and what started as a one-off project became a trusted source for filmmakers who care about the details.
Today, Nick runs Scorched with his wife Amanda (a mixed-media artist) and their dog Churro, designing tools that blend function, quality, and storytelling—just like a great shot.

Artist, Teacher, Founder of Scorched Laserworks.
Amanda Ramsey
Amanda is a lifelong artist with a love for bold color, mixed media, and playful design. Before co-founding Scorched Laserworks, she spent years teaching art and creating work that celebrates whimsy, wonder, and joy. Her creative fingerprints are all over the brand—from engraved ornaments to custom slate paint fills.
Amanda brings a handcrafted touch to every Scorched product, balancing Nick’s cinematic precision with her own artistic flair. Whether she's painting, packaging, or dreaming up new designs, she’s driven by the same thing that fuels the best films: imagination and heart.

The Heart of our Workshop
Churro!
Don’t let her size fool you—Churro runs this workshop. Small but mighty, she’s our fearless floor manager, keeping a close watch over every slate, ornament, and project that leaves the studio. She’s quick to inspect packages, greet visitors with a wag, and ensure breaks are taken exactly when she says so. Churro has a way of sneaking into the middle of any creative brainstorm, curling up by the laser engraver like she’s guarding our best ideas. She might be the smallest member of the team, but make no mistake—around here, Churro calls the shots.

Started as a Gift
Our First Slate
Scorched Laserworks was born out of a need We couldn't ignore. As a cinematographer working on set after set, Nick wanted a slate that felt personal. Not something with his name taped on it, not just another generic clapperboard, But nothing out there quite fit the bill.
A few years later, while shooting a commercial for Glowforge, Nick received a laser engraver after the shoot wrapped. That one piece of gear opened a door. With Amanda’s artistic eye and some trial-and-error learning, they taught themselves how to design, engrave, and paint their own custom slates. They were clean, sharp, and totally unique.
When a project came around with 16 directors, Nick and Amanda decided to make each of them a personalized slate as a wrap gift. The reaction was immediate: people loved them. The slates felt elevated, cinematic, and real; exactly the kind of tool you’d be proud to put in front of the lens. We decided to make smaller keychain versions for the rest of the crew(while shooting this show... not much sleep was happening). When everyone loved them we decided to list them on Etsy and the rest is history!
From that moment on, what started as a one-off turned into Scorched Laserworks. With Churro underfoot (and Brody and Bailey always in spirit), Nick and Amanda built a brand focused on craft, quality, and storytelling—one slate at a time.

What Drives Us
“We believe stories matter — and that the tools we use to tell them should too. That’s why we treat every piece we make like it’s headed straight to set.”
